We did not in fact do this. BUT I texted a picture of the fortress to my dad and he said that's what it was and it made me laugh! I'm missing my family a bunch but an so excited to see how the rest of this trip unfolds :)

Monday, March 4th

  • Breakfast: pain au chocolat, scrambled eggs, apple juice, fruit, and hashbrowns

    • Pain au chocolat: 10/10, absolutely nom. Wrapped up some extras in a napkin and we ate them after we toured the gardens

    • Scrambled eggs: 5/10, nothing to write home about but still good

    • Apple juice: 10/10, always solid

    • Fruit: 4/10, oddly liquid

    • Hashbrowns: 4/10, they were low key greasy

  • Drove to Grianan of Aileach and saw a lovely rainbow! This fortress dates back to the 1700s BCE, and people used to believe that gods and goddesses lived there! It was very windy but definitely worth it.

  • Continued driving through Glenveagh National Park and visited Glenveagh Castle! We had such a lovely time walking around the gardens and touring the estate. We also had lunch at the cafe! Vegetable soup, sourdough bread, a Diet Coke, and a chocolate muffin for dessert.

    • Soup: 7/10, a great broth but I prefer my soups to have substance I guess? If it hadn't been blended and had potato or carrot pieces in it would be a reallllly solid 10. Maybe I've gone too in depth with this soup review, so moving on!

    • Bread: 10/10. I will always go feral for some crusty bread.

    • Diet Coke: 6/10, was a bit warm but helped me fight the jet lag and enjoy the drive!

    • Muffin: 9/10 oh boy was this good. To quote my dear Chizzy, "it was buss"

  • Took the scenic route leaving the park to Donegal, and it was awesome! I listened to Irish music and watched all the sheep go by and had a lovely time all in all. It was about a 2 and a half hour drive (a very travel heavy day) but it was raining on and off so we kept seeing beautiful rainbows, and the Irish countryside and coast looks so amazing this time of year!!!

  • In between getting to the hotel and dinner we freshened up and napped, and then had dinner at the hotel! Caesar salad, hamburger, and fudge cake for dessert.

    • Caesar salad: 7/10

    • Hamburger: 4/10, I gotta be honest I was not a fan of this but the fries and side salad were pretty good!

    • Fudge cake: 6/10, Chizzy and I split the cake and some cheesecake and they were both pretty good!

  • Now back in the room and writing stories and updating you all before I go to bed!!

Gin rummy points:

  • Maddie: 20

  • Maggie: 47

  • Chizzy: 0
